Bournemouth Marathon

Spoiled for choice for autumnal marathons, this year Chris Limmer ventured south to Bournemouth for his marathon fix. The marathon was just one part of a whole festival of running and even on the saturday the atmosphere was building nicely for those running further the following day.

Conditions on the Sunday were warm and probably more ideal for those wanting to make a sandcastle or have an ice cream than for marathon running. Nonetheless Chris fought the temptation to run too fast early on (despite the first section descending gradually). But despite this by half way the warm conditions were begin to take their toll on Chris and the other marathon runners.  The regular refreshments provided some relief as the sun beat down.

With all runners in the same position the kindness of strangers spurred each other in the final section despite the limited shade and the familiar thud of fatigue in the legs after nearly 3hours of running. Crossing the line in 3hrs 6mins and 52 seconds this placed Chris 30th in over 2000 runners.
